When life gets very busy, you may feel like you can't take time to de-stress—there’s so much to do! However, ignoring your self-care routine can make you feel run down and burnt out. Instead, you should make time for simple strategies to improve your overall well-being, even if it just for a few minutes each day. Here are some quick and easy ways to practice self-care for when you are on-the-go.

1. Drink water:  Water can increase your energy, relieve fatigue, and flush out toxins from your body. It’s recommended that you drink about 2 liters or 8 glasses of water a day for optimal health. Try keeping bottled water in your bag, car, or at your desk to stay hydrated. Some people fill up a large jug in the morning and keep it with them throughout the day, so they know they are drinking enough water. It’s a great reminder to stay hydrated!

2. Declutter your room or work space: When you are surrounded by clutter, it can create clutter in your mind as well.  Taking just 5-10 minutes to clear your work space, file paper work, or put away clutter at home can make a big difference in your mood.  It will make you feel accomplished, and give you a space to relax!

3. Make a gratitude list: This is a quick exercise with major benefits. Don't even think it through—just sit down for 5 minutes and jot down what you are grateful for. You may be surprised about how seeing all of the good in your life on paper can boost your mood.

4. Stretch and breathe: Sounds simple, right? It is! This is super effective if you happen to be feeling run-down and tired. Taking 30 seconds to stretch out will get your blood flowing, and help relieve achy and tired muscles. Taking deep breaths increases your oxygen flow to your brain, which can help you feel calmer and more alert as well.

These are just a few small ways you can enhance your well-being and mood throughout the day. No matter how busy you are, you owe it to yourself to take even 5 minutes to practice a self-care strategy. Even small steps to take care of your mind and body can really improve your well-being!
