Do you ever feel like no matter how much you do during the day, it still isn't enough? Life can be stressful, especially when you have kids. Whether you are a mom to a colicky newborn, or a mom of three, it's easy to let stress build up and feel like you have little time to yourself.

Here are 4 easy ways for busy moms to de-stress - and it won't cost a thing!:

  1. Take 5 minutes to yourself and breathe deeply.  You might be saying to yourself, "where am I going to find five minutes alone? Get your kids settled or tell your partner you are taking a few minutes along. Shut the closet door or go into your bathroom. Close your eyes and breathe in for 4 counts through your nose. Then breathe out for 8 counts through your mouth. Repeat a few times. While you are breathing, work on relaxing your body, melting away the tension and attempting to de-clutter your mind.  You can use this technique anywhere!  It goes with you wherever you go.
  2. Practice self care at home. It doesn't have to be a day at the spa to feel good. Even something small like having the house to yourself for an hour (without doing laundry!) or calling your best friend and having an uninterrupted and lengthy conversation can help restore you. Polish your nails, put in a deep hair conditioner. Make it a ritual and it can help break up the day and remind you that you are a person, a woman and a mom!
  3. Laugh! Whether it's watching your favorite show or movie, or joining your kids in something fun and silly they are doing, laughter is a wonderful way to de-stress. Studies show that laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies. This improves your resistance to disease. Laughter also releases endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals which promotes a sense of overall well-being.
  4. Get some fresh air! Even a few minutes outside can help you reset. If you have a baby, put him or her in the stroller and go for a walk. Even a brief walk in cold weather can be enough to help you push the reset button and reduce stress. Changing your environment can be a great way to help you shift your focus.  Mindfully walking in nature is a great way to not only change your scenery, but also allow you a moment to appreciate the world outside of your house. As you are walking, attempt to clear your mind and pay attention to the marvels of nature.  She's a Mother too!

These are just a few ways that moms can de-stress throughout the day. Self care is so important. Not only will it help you feel like you have more energy to get through the day, it will also set a healthy example for your family.  HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
