5 Consecutive Saturdays online,
starting May 9 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

The Skill Masters is a therapeutic drama group that uses a role-playing format to promote learning and mastery of social and problem-solving skills. Group members create their own characters and work together to solve mysteries as a team. The goal of the group is for each person to use their natural strengths, to support each other, to ask for help when needed and to compromise with each other in order to create solutions as a team. It’s also a lot of fun!!

The road to solving the weekly mysteries offers each participant an opportunity to share strengths, to build distress tolerance, improve their problem solving or emotional management skills as the therapist narrates the story.

Group members get into “character,” try on new personal strengths and practice new skills that will be taught throughout the group. Using role-play helps participants feels less awkward as they can get behind their characters and use it as a mask while leaning in to new ways of being.

Learning objectives:

  1. To increase confidence and assertive communication skills in social situations

  2. To promote problems solving and teamwork skills

  3. To develop coping skills and distress tolerance to stressful situations

  4. To cultivate insight and self-awareness

  5. To empower kids to work together and support each other

The Skills Masters Group will be led by Laura Beach, LMFT and is appropriate for teens ages 13-16.  It will be held on five consecutive Saturdays, beginning May 9 from 11:00AM-1:00PM. The total cost of the five sessions will be $200.
