Workshops for Community

Social media is a great source of entertainment and connection—but for some children and teens, social media can cause more harm than good!

There are negative social and developmental consequences for children and teens to overuse of social media - addiction to trouble communicating with others face-to-face, to cyber bullying to procrastinating….

When it comes to social media, it’s all about finding balance and regulation. How can you help your child or teen develop a positive relationship with social media?

Did you know…

  • 95% of teens have a smartphone or access to one. 45% of teens say they are online on a near-constant basis. (Pew Research Center, 2018)

  • 54% of teens agree that using social media often distracts them when they should be paying attention to the people they’re with, up from 44% in 2012.(Common Sense Media, 2018)

  • Nearly two-thirds (64%) of teen social media users say they “often” or “sometimes” come across racist, sexist, homophobic, or religious-based hate content in social media. (Common Sense Media, 2018)

  • Teens value face-to-face time less today, preferring to text instead of talk in person. (49% in 2012 to 32% in 2018, Common Sense Media, 2018)
